WIATECH · WATERLOO INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY
Engineering minds, made in Sierra Leone.
We couldn't find the engineers the mission demanded — so we're building them. WIATech is our Waterloo Institute of Advanced Technology: elite, project-first training in software, AI, cybersecurity, cloud, and networks. We don't teach students to catch up with the world. We teach them to build it.
WHY WE BUILT IT
We can't import
the standard.
So we produce it.
The talent required to build what Tabempa is building does not yet exist in sufficient quantity in our market — not as a complaint about the people, but as an honest read of the starting condition. The answer was never to find a cheaper vendor. It was to become the manufacturer.
WIATech is that manufacturer. Built and taught in Sierra Leone, by engineers, for engineers — small cohorts, real projects, and the same standards used inside Tabempa from the first day. Students learn by shipping. The best of what WIATech produces goes on to build the future, here.
THE PROGRAMS
Six elite diploma tracks.
The bar is the same as anywhere in the world. The projects are real, the cohorts are small, and every track ends in work that proves capability — not a certificate.
21 months
Full-Stack Software Engineering
Web, distributed systems, and AI applications — culminating in an open-source capstone.
36 months
Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
Neural networks from first principles, through transformers, to frontier research.
33 months
Cybersecurity & CyberOps
SOC operations, offensive and defensive engineering, digital forensics, cloud security.
33 months
Cloud Computing
AWS, Azure, and GCP; infrastructure-as-code, Kubernetes, and SRE — with a placement.
22 months
Enterprise Network Engineering
Switching, routing, wireless systems, and security hardening at enterprise scale.
17 months
Data Analytics
Statistical analysis, production data engineering, warehousing, and applied ML.
Every track is anchored by eleven foundation programs — version control, computer systems, data structures & algorithms, databases, Linux, and networking — so no one is left behind at the start.
RESEARCH · CARIS
A research center, not just a school.
The Center for Advanced Research in Intelligent Systems — CARIS — is WIATech's research arm, launching in 2026. Its work is aimed squarely at problems that matter here, pursued to a standard that travels anywhere.
Foundation Models for African Languages
Applied Machine Learning for Health & Agriculture
Resource-Efficient AI Systems
AI Safety, Policy & Society
ADMISSIONS · COHORT 01
The first cohort is open.
Come build it.
Applications for Cohort 01 are open through 31 August 2026, ahead of a 2 November 2026 start. Small cohort, faculty-reviewed — admission on character and capability, not pedigree.
