Mathematics & Statistics Instructor

**About the Role**

WIATech is a technical institute in formation in Waterloo, Sierra Leone — the academy division of Tabempa Engineering Limited — training engineers and analysts to a production standard. You will own **MTH 85 · Mathematics for Machine Learning** — the maths bridge into our AI & ML flagship — and teach the **applied statistics that our Data Analytics diploma (DAT 200) depends on**. MTH 85 pairs every concept with a Python implementation; **you teach the mathematics, and our engineering faculty co-teach the code in the same room**, so no coding background is required from you. (Note: Data Analytics statistics — A/B testing, experimental design — is a distinct body from ML statistics; both are well within reach of a strong quantitative teacher.)

**What You'll Do**

- Teach linear algebra, calculus, probability, and optimisation for machine learning — applied, not abstract (the maths behind gradient descent, PCA, cross-entropy).

- Teach the applied/inferential statistics Data Analytics relies on — hypothesis testing, regression, forecasting, and A/B testing / experimentation.

- Work the maths on the board and on paper on real problems; our engineering faculty pair the Python implementation labs alongside you.

- Run weekly low-stakes oral check-ins and a final oral defence, in WIATech's defence-led model.

- A strong mathematics or quantitative background, able to teach clearly and patiently.

- **No coding required** — the Python implementation is co-taught by our engineering faculty.

- Applied / inferential statistics experience strongly preferred — or genuine willingness to extend into the applied statistics Data Analytics needs (A/B testing, experimentation), for which we provide structured learning resources.

- A teaching-by-examples instinct: maths shown working on real problems, not left abstract.

- **Bonus:** any exposure to data, statistics software, or machine-learning concepts.

- A monthly salary of **NLe 3,500**.
