Engineering

English & Communication Instructor

Freetown, Sierra Leone · Full-Time · Posted 19 June 2026

About This Role

**About the Role**

WIATech is a technical institute in formation in Waterloo, Sierra Leone — the academy division of Tabempa Engineering Limited — training engineers and analysts to a production standard. You will own **ENG 70 · English & Communication**, our universal communication foundation, taken by students across every diploma. Its core is **stakeholder translation**: making an idea, decision, risk, or recommendation clear to someone who does not already share your context. The course assesses communication quality only, never the technical correctness of the work. (It is not a technical-writing course — READMEs, documentation, and technical reports are taught inside the diplomas.)

**What You'll Do**

- Teach reading and summarising without distortion, and concise professional writing.

- Coach structured speaking and presentation, and the discipline of answering the question actually asked.

- Prepare students for **oral defence** — standing before a panel and defending their work with clarity and composure.

- Run continuous practice, live oral tasks, and written revision across the cohort, ending in a final defended presentation.

- Assess communication quality in clear English (Krio is welcome to support peer learning).

What We're Looking For

- A strong general communicator and educator — able to teach reading, writing, speaking, presentation, feedback, clarity, tone, and audience awareness.

- The ability to coach clear writing and confident speaking, and to prepare students for live oral questioning — our standard is **intelligibility, not prestige accent**.

- **No technical background required** — you assess communication, never technical correctness.

- Comfortable teaching by doing rather than lecturing.

- **Bonus:** experience teaching or coaching communication in a professional or technical setting; public-speaking, debate, or presentation coaching.

What We Offer

- A monthly salary of **NLe 2,500**.

- A founding-faculty role: you set how communication is taught at WIATech from day one.

- A seat in an institute built to a real production standard, working alongside practising engineers.

- On-campus collaboration at our Waterloo campus, and a clear part in shaping technical education in Sierra Leone.
